Lives in Belgrade
Presented work consists from two segments. The first is a recorded verbalization of analysis of frequently used words. The second are collages made out of interventions on physical material collected during these two months. Throughout the process of putting together this work my main goal is to understand the relation between text and art work, positions of curator and artist and role and hold of the art market on the art world. Besides that, the piece is an invitation to the viewers to explore presented material, but also rethink their own position as recipients of verbal and visual messages, and the effect these messages have on perception and behaviour.
Jelena Mijić finished her master’s studies in Fine Arts. Member of photo collective Belgrade Raw and part of the organisation team of artist in residency program MultiMadeira based on the Portuguese island of Madeira. She is most interested in randomness, indetermination, participation and chaos in art, along with questions about authorship, imperative of originality, ingeniousness and authority of the artist’s personality, institutionalization of art, and also the commonly accepted postulates on which the art and the artworks stand.
